The brief

Workers on overseas contracts can find themselves in situations where asking for help quickly is difficult. Mile Guard was designed around one requirement: get attention to a worker in trouble as fast as possible, then give the agency a clear picture of what is happening.

What we built

  • An Android panic-button app built for fast, low-friction use in an emergency.
  • A desktop monitoring application for labour agencies.
  • A shared status view so an agency can see the state of the workers it contracts.
  • A simple flow that works on the kind of phones workers actually carry.

How it works

The mobile app is deliberately minimal: the emergency action is the centre of the interface, not buried in menus. Alerts flow through to the desktop console, where an agency can monitor workers and respond. The two applications were built as one system so the agency side and the worker side always agree on what has happened.

Outcome

Mile Guard was presented to a number of labour agencies in Uganda as a practical safety tool for overseas workers. The product is no longer actively distributed, but it remains one of the clearest examples of our approach to software where reliability matters more than features.
