The brief
Sending a file between a phone and a computer usually means emailing it to yourself, hunting for a cable, or signing into a service. File Share was built to make the transfer direct, regardless of which operating system is on either end.
What we built
- An app for transferring files between phones and computers.
- Cross-platform behaviour rather than a single-OS tool.
- A simple send-and-receive flow.
- Support for the everyday file types people actually move.
How it works
The key constraint was interoperability. A transfer tool is only useful if it works between whatever devices two people happen to own, so the design avoided assumptions about the operating system on either side.
Outcome
A working cross-platform transfer tool and an early exploration of the kind of utility software we still like building. It is no longer distributed.
